Tawny Hammond, Park Manager, has assembled a group of classes at Lake Accotink Park that are guaranteed to be a dog-gone good time! From puppy to adult, Lake Accotink Park offers a class that will fit your dog’s unique personality.
Dog Trick classes are the newest addition to the dog class collection. Many commands and tricks are taught, including: shaking hands, begging, bowing, rolling over, bringing in the newspaper, and much more! The canine students must have the ability to sit and lie down with ease before enrollment in this course. The course meets once a week for a 45 minute lesson for five weeks. The cost of the course is $35. Handlers should bring their dog’s favorite toy and a variety of treats to reward their friend upon completion of each task.
Several other canine courses are offered for handlers fourteen years old and older. Puppy Kindergarten teaches your little one the fundamentals of socialization and obedience. Your puppy must be at least eight weeks old to participate. The oldest pups in kindergarten are six months. In Dog Obedience I dogs learn to walk on the left side of their handler with a loose leash, as well as, to come when called, and to wait for the next command. In Dog Obedience II, the experienced dog will work on off-leash heeling and more challenging skills. All classes require participants to provide: proof of vaccination, a pooper-scooper, water, and treats for your dog.
