Most shelters cannot afford to keep unwanted animals forever. Even if they could, these animals would be lonely, kept in cages day after day hoping for attention. Dogs and cats need the care and companionship of people. The Humane Society is trying hard to reduce the pet overpopulation problem by encouraging spay/neuter programs. For the homeless, lonely animals in shelters, a peaceful, humane death is the kindest end.
